OPI Do You Think I'm Tex-y?

It's Friday everyone! This is an oldy but goody: OPI's Do You Think I'm Tex-y? And it has a silly name, but I don't mind so much

alt

Pink jelly, mmm, very lovely.

This is the only color I have from the OPI Texas collection, but I've always wanted to get my hands on Houston We Have a Purple, partly because the name makes me giggle.

Have a great weekend! I'll be back on Monday :)

OPI Mermaid's Tears

Hello my friends!

Way back in January I showed you OPI's Steady as She Rose here, and today I have another polish from that collection, Mermaid's Tears.

This is a beautiful dusty turquoise-green cream, and it applied really well. This flattered my skin-tone much better than Steady as She Rose, and as a side note, my mother loved this color on her toes.

Not much else to say today. I hope you are all having a great week so far and I'll be back on Friday with another post!

OPI Steady as She Rose

First post of the semester!
I realize that I was very scanty on posting over the holiday, and I want to work on that. So expect to see more frequent posting on my part!

I had bit of a struggle trying to decide which polish to try out for the first day of classes and after much deliberation I finally settled on OPI's Steady As She Rose, a light, dusty lavender/pink.  It doesn't look fabulous with my olive skin-tone, but this is such a gorgeous shade of purple/pink that I can overlook the color clash.

I apologize for my ravaged cuticles, they look much better in real life. Out comes the Burt's Bees Lemon Butter!

I was pretty miffed to find that the polish had chipped before I took photos (the chip is on my index finger), but its not terribly noticeable so I'm not going to fix it. The second photo makes the polish look a little lighter and bluer than it is in real life, and the sunlight photos are much more color accurate. I've heard this called a pink, but I see lavender MUCH more strongly than I do pink. You really have to be in the right light to see pink. Concerning the formula, it was smooth, pigmented and not terribly streaky (two coats to even out bald spots). Pretty typical for OPI.

In other news, today is my last first day of my undergrad studies. I haven't decided yet if I want to grad school/med school yet, and I'm content to just figure my life out at this point than scramble and make a decision that I'm not one-hundred percent behind.  It's rather bittersweet; I'm more than ready to be done with school, but the real world seems pretty terrifying.

I remember last summer at a barbecue I said to my friends, "I'm so ready to be finished with school and in the real world!" Ho, ho, was that a lie. I don't know what got into past-me, because I most certainly do not feel that way now.

OPI You Don't Know Jacques!

The weeks are just flying by, aren't they? I can't believe October is almost over, and I don't even remember it starting. The leaves have changed colors and are starting to fall, but the weather in Colorado isn't yet cold enough for daily coat use. It gets pretty chilly in the morning but warms up significantly in the afternoon, and I can't wait for it to be cold all the time. I absolutely love fall, sweaters, scarves and pumpkin spice lattes from Starbucks (it's the only time I buy them) :D

OPI's You Don't Know Jacques! is a great fall color. It's a dark brown/greige/taupe/mushroom (by the by, I hate the word "greige". It sounds weird.) BUT the color is great. I'm actually a big fan of this, and the formula was wonderfully creamy and consistent.

You really have to look around to find the right taupe/mushroom tones for your skin color. That Essence polish that I tried out here just didn't do anything for me. But this definitely does. I can't say exactly why I'm a fan, but something about the deeper color and maybe the onset of fall has me going. I don't know.

If this post makes absolutely no sense, it's because I got absolutely no sleep last night, and am exhausted. I really need to start nailing (ha, no pun intended) down a true schedule and sticking to it, because at the moment I dont' even have one. I just sleep when it's gotten too late, and my homework is always finished last minute. You would think that a 4th year university student would have learned to properly manage her time, but that's a big fat no.

So what are your thoughts on You Don't Know Jacques! ? I know it's a pretty popular color, or used to be...

What's With the Cattitude?

Continuing on with the review of the haul I got before Christmas, here is OPI's What's With the Cattitude? from their Shrek Forever After collection.

Isn't she lovely? I am completely smitten. This photo is a few days after application, so you can see some tip wear and my cuticles look horrible. They don't look like that in real life, seriously. Anyways, this color goes on like the Shrek green, it was smooth and with two coats the coverage is good. Not stellar, but definitely passable. I'm so much in love with this color that I'm tempted to buy a backup bottle, but I'm not sure where to find it since it's being phased out.

It turned into nail-night at my apartment, so I'm showing you my roommate's nails, with Sally Hansen's Blue Me Away.

It's a great color, especially on her. It's bright and vibrant and totally matches her personality.

Not much else to say today, except for classes are eating my life.
Next up in the series, China Glaze!

Haulage!

This is pretty late coming, so here it is finally!
The lacquer haul from over Christmas break (and some from before Christmas):

China Glaze Bermuda Breakaway, Sun Worshipper, and For Audrey
Essie Sag Harbor and Lapis of Luxury
Package Irony, Lapis of Luxury was in the big pack,
and Sag Harbor  was in the tiny one. So weird
From OPI's Shrek Forever After Collection,
Who the Shrek are You?and What's with the Cattitude?
Sally Hansen's  Grey by Grey, which was a consolation
for not being able to buy MAC's Blue India, but I love it
just on its own.
ULTA polishes, from left to right: Grin and Berry It,
 Sweetheart Pink, Vintage Violet,
and The Jungle Look
Christmas presents from my wonderful roommate:
Finger Paints Silver Sculpture, Orly Girly,

and China Glaze Frostbite

I'm pretty stoked about Frostbite, The Jungle Look, and Lapis of Luxury, which I haven't tried yet. I've worn a good number of them, but forgot to take photos, so I will have to swatch them again for you :) I'm going to do a series from this haul, starting yesterday with Who the Shrek are You? so keep posted!
What about you, any of these strike your fancy?

Who the Shrek are You?

It's Wednesday. It was really rough for me to wake up today, and I had a mild temper tantrum this morning that resulted in me accidentally kicking my phone/alarm behind my dresser. Real mature.
 Polish review today!
Presenting: OPI's Who the Shrek are You?
Pea soup green, and it's seriously fugly. It's actually the perfect match to Shrek's body. I put it on for fun yesterday, and thought it was a blast, but now today I just think it's nasty looking. My camera didn't like this color either, and it had a hard time focusing.

The pictures aren't really color accurate either. It's kind-of a mix between the two photos, but the color really makes my fingers look red and lobster-y. Not fun. Boo.
All color complaints aside, this went on like a dream in two coats, and it's maintained itself pretty well so far since I'm terribly rough with my hands. I've already got a tiny chip on my thumb, but that was application error, not the polish.

I bought this, along with OPI's What's With The Cattitude? during Christmas holiday, partly because I LOVE Shrek and loved the collection, and partly because OPI appears to be phasing out these two, along with Fiercely Fiona since I can't find them on their website. However, it appears that Funky Dunkey, Rumple's Wiggin', and Ogre the Top Blue are still being put out. (but don't quote me on that)

Side note, I'm super confused about Funky Dunkey. It says on the bottle "Dunkey". It says on OPI's website "Dunkey" but nail bloggers all over the place insist on calling it Donkey, with an O. On one hand, this bugs me in an anal-retentive sort of way, and on the other, I can't figure out if I missed something. I'm really late in getting part of the Shrek Forever After Collection, so I would expect that any confusion would have been worked out.  I don't know, maybe I'm the only one that noticed the difference? lol

Ever have one of those days where you're just crazy? That's me today.
Gotta run to immunology!
